The essentials of this note
- Odoo 20 was released on September 24, 2026: AI now carries out tasks and you can work offline.
- There are improvements in finance, sales, inventory, manufacturing and the Argentine localization.
- Before upgrading, check the cost of AI credits and the impact on custom modules.
- Reswoy adds AI with its own budget and modules for ARCA, FCE, banks and Argentine indices.
- With version 20, version 17 loses support: if you are on it or earlier, it is time to plan.
Odoo presented version 20 on September 24, 2026, at Odoo Experience in Brussels. It is a major release: artificial intelligence moves from suggesting to executing, you can work offline and almost every app has improvements.
In this note we summarize what matters most for a company that already uses Odoo or is considering it, what to check before upgrading and how we approach a version upgrade.

The highlights of Odoo 20
AI that executes
AI agents now create and update records and can run from automated and scheduled actions. Odoo also adds support for MCP, the protocol that lets external AI tools read and write Odoo data with the permissions you define.
Offline mode
Create, edit and archive records without an internet connection and sync them later. Useful for field teams, warehouses or sites with unreliable connectivity.
Finance
AI-powered financial insights based on accounting data, line prediction on vendor bills and sending payment batches to the bank from Odoo.
Sales and inventory
Order lines without products, editable margins and period-based pricelists. In inventory, suggested minimum and maximum stock and a stock aging report.
Manufacturing
Weekly kanban views, continuous production and a single button to produce, plus barcode improvements on the shop floor.
Argentina
Batch processing of digital delivery notes (remitos digitales) and localization updates, alongside more than 60 countries with e-invoicing and tax changes.
What to check before upgrading
Cost of AI
Every AI feature consumes credits bought separately from licenses. It is worth estimating usage before enabling them across the organization.
Technical changes
Record rules are now defined as domains on access rights, change tracking in the chatter is rebuilt, account groups are replaced by parent accounts and payment statuses are reorganized. This affects custom modules, reports and integrations.
Version support
Odoo maintains the last three versions. With version 20, versions 18, 19 and 20 remain supported. If your company runs 17 or earlier, it is time to plan.
What Reswoy adds on top of Odoo
Beyond the standard, we develop our own modules that we use in production today and include in every upgrade plan. They complement Odoo’s Argentine localization.
AI with its own budget
Our AI module connects to the provider you choose (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini or other compatible ones) with your own account. You choose the model for each task, see the month’s usage and set a spending cap with alerts. The cost does not depend on Odoo credits: in our tests, reading a vendor bill costs less than one US cent.
Vendor bills read with AI
PDFs and photos of bills that arrive by email or are uploaded to Odoo are read with that model and matched against ARCA records. Nothing is posted automatically: anything that does not match is flagged for review.
ARCA and purchasing
Import of ARCA “Mis Comprobantes recibidos” and matching with purchase orders to create draft bills, with purchase requests, approval by product family and three-way control.
MiPyME Electronic Credit Invoice
The full lifecycle of the instrument: acceptance with evidence, deadlines and a registry check to know whether a customer is required to receive it.
Banks, reconciliation and indices
Import of Argentine bank statements by dragging the file, diagnosis of bank reconciliation and economic indices (CPI, ICC, CER/UVA, dollar) updated from public sources.
Our view
There is no need to upgrade in the first week. What is worth doing is deciding with information: which new features add value to your operation, how much work it takes to adapt what you already have and when in the year the change is least disruptive.
Standard installations are upgraded with Odoo’s tools, and the effort lies in testing and validating. When there are custom modules or integrations, each component is reviewed and adapted to the new version. That is where most of the work is, and where good planning avoids surprises.
For many companies the strongest argument is not a specific feature but staying on a supported version, with tax and security updates kept current.
How we plan a version upgrade
Assessment of your installation
We review the current version, standard and custom modules, integrations and custom reports. We identify what changes with Odoo 20.
Upgrade on a test copy
We upgrade a copy of your database and adapt the custom developments. Your operation keeps running in the meantime.
Validation with your team
We test the key processes with the people who use them and fix whatever is needed before going to production.
Cutover and support
We coordinate the switch date, upgrade the final database and support the first days of use.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to upgrade now?
Not necessarily. If you are on 18 or 19 you are supported; the decision depends on how valuable the new features are for your operation. If you are on 17 or earlier, it is worth planning.
Can I move to Odoo 20 from an old version?
Yes. The effort depends on how many versions are in between and, above all, on the custom developments and integrations that need adapting.
What happens to my custom modules?
They are reviewed one by one. Some are no longer needed because Odoo 20 covers them as standard, others are adapted and others rewritten.
Does AI cost extra?
Odoo’s AI features consume credits bought separately from licenses. With our module you can also use your own account with an AI provider, choose the model and set a monthly spending cap.
Does my operation stop during the upgrade?
No. We work on a copy until everything is validated, and the cutover is planned for the moment of least impact.
