The essentials of this note

  1. Standard support for Odoo 17 ended in September 2026.
  2. The system keeps working, but bug fixes and security updates stop.
  3. Odoo 18 ends in September 2027; Odoo 19 in 2028 and Odoo 20 in 2029.
  4. You can upgrade directly to Odoo 19 or 20.

Odoo provides standard support for each version for three years after release. Odoo 17 was released in November 2023 and its standard support ended in September 2026, with the arrival of Odoo 20.

If your company is still on Odoo 17, the system works as before, but the fixes and updates of standard support stop. In this note we explain what that means and your options.

When support ends for each version

Dates published by Odoo in its version policy:

VersionReleaseEnd of standard support
Odoo 16October 2022September 2025
Odoo 17November 2023September 2026
Odoo 18October 2024September 2027 (planned)
Odoo 19September 2025September 2028 (planned)
Odoo 20September 2026September 2029 (planned)

What losing standard support means

Standard support includes Odoo’s helpdesk, bug fixes and security updates. When it ends, those fixes are no longer released for that version.

Odoo offers extended support for an additional fee: available on-premise for any version and on Odoo.sh only for some. During that period, fixes are provided only where technically feasible.

Your options

Upgrade to Odoo 19

A stable version, supported until September 2028. The most conservative option if you have many custom developments.

Upgrade to Odoo 20

The newest version, supported until September 2029, with AI that executes tasks and offline mode. See what Odoo 20 brings.

Buy extended support

It gives you time to plan, at an extra cost. Best as a transition, not a permanent solution.

Upgrading to Odoo 18 gives you only one more year of standard support: it ends in September 2027.

How we plan the upgrade

  1. Assessment

We review your version, standard and custom modules, integrations and custom reports.

  2. Test upgrade

We upgrade a copy of your database and adapt the developments. Your operation keeps running.

  3. Validation

We test the key processes with your team before going to production.

  4. Cutover and support

We upgrade the final database on the agreed date and support the first days.

Frequently asked questions

Will my Odoo 17 stop working?

No. The system keeps working; what ends is standard support: bug fixes and security updates.

Can I jump straight from Odoo 17 to Odoo 20?

Yes. Under Odoo’s policy, you can upgrade to any version under current support. The effort depends on custom developments and integrations.

How long does an upgrade take?

It depends on the number of custom modules, integrations and data. We estimate it in the assessment.

I am on Odoo 16 or earlier, what should I do?

Your version is already out of standard support. It is worth planning the upgrade as soon as possible.
